A patient in the ED with three episodes of focal seizure without return of conciousness should recieve what slow-acting medication for treatment once a benzodiazepine has controlled thier symptoms?

A patient presenting with absence seizure was given a medication that later contributed to the development of a blood disorder and weight gain. What medication is a likely culprit?  

*gabapentin is an adjunct, not first-line for focal seizure!*
