Samhainophobia. Samhain marks the end of summer and beginning of winter in the Celtic tradition. The Celts only marked two seasons, summer and winter. Samhain means 'summer's end'. This day is used to communicate with and remember those who have passed on, as this is the time when the veil between the spirit world and the mundane world is at its thinnest. Samhain is celebrated October 31st, and is the holiday that Halloween derived from.

Devil's son. Bram Stoker's creation "Dracula" was based on the life of Prince Vlad Tepes (1431-1476). He was also called Vlad the Impaler since he had a bad habit of impaling his victims on stakes. The name "Dracula" is Romanian for Devil's son. Vlad Dracula's father was a knight of the Order of the Draco or dragon, so Dracula also translates as "the Son of Draco".

A spider. A spider was rolled in butter and used as cure for diseases such as leprosy and the plague. Tasty!

Los Altos, California. The Los Altos, Ca., school system banned all Halloween celebrations because of the holiday's roots in pagan tradition.

1962. This great song written by Bobby "Boris" Pickett and Lenny Capizzi reached number one on the Billboard Charts for two weeks in 1962, and then returned to the charts in 1970 and 1973.

Turnips. Jack O'Lanterns were put out to frighten away evil spirits. When pumpkins were discovered, they were found to be much easier to carve, thus the transition.

Hasbro. Parker Brothers first marketed this game in 1966, but the company was taken over by Hasbro in 1991.

Stephen King. Publishers Weekly listed It as the best-selling hardcover fiction book in the United States in 1986.

Micheal Keaton. Fun Fact: Most Of The Cast Members Turned The Script Down When They First Read It. Geena Davis was the only cast member who was actually eager to sign up for Beetlejuice. All the other actors – including Michael Keaton, Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and Sylvia Sidney – turned down the script when they first read it.

Candy Corn. Fun Fact: When the Goelitz Confectionery Company first produced candy corn, it was called "Chicken Feed." The boxes were illustrated with a colorful rooster logo and a tagline: "Something worth crowing for."

New York. The parade, initiated on October 31, 1974 by Greenwich Village puppeteer and mask maker Ralph Lee, is the world's largest Halloween parade and the only major nighttime parade in the United States. The parade reports itself to have 50,000 "costumed participants" and 2 million spectators.

Halloween Blizzard. The "Halloween Blizzard" of 1991, which dumped three feet of snow and two inches of ice across parts of the Midwest.

It. According to Box Office Mojo, the 2017 Stephen King movie is top grossing.

House Ghosts

The Amityville Horror. The Amityville Horror is based on the alleged experiences of the Lutz family who bought a new home on 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York, a house where a mass murder had been committed the year before.

Salt. According to tradition, salt can be laid around the boundaries of a room to prevent spirits and demons from entering.

Yellow, orange white is the progression of standard candy corn.

Snoopy. When Linus sees a shadowy figure rising from the moonlit patch, he assumes the Great Pumpkin has arrived, and faints. When Sally sees that it is only Snoopy, she yells at Linus for making her miss out on the Halloween festivities.
