1898 June 12, Philippine independence declared: “During the Spanish-American War, Filipino rebels led by Emilio Aguinaldo proclaim the independence of the Philippines after 300 years of Spanish rule.

He was commissioned by Emilio Aguinaldo to compose the Philippine National Anthem "Lupang Hinirang" known before as "Marcha Nacional Filipina" which was played during the declaration of Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898.

In World War II, MacArthur commanded allied forces in the Asia Pacific, a role that earned him the prestigious Medal of Honor. But his heroism didn't end with WWII nor was it limited strictly to acts of war. After the war, MacArthur found himself in Japan.

On July 4, 1946, pursuant to the provisions of the Tydings-McDuffie Law or the Philippine Independence Act, the Commonwealth of the Philippines became the Republic of the Philippines—the Third Republic.

September 21, 1972 became the official date that Martial Law was established and the day that the Marcos dictatorship began. This also allowed Marcos to control history on his own terms.

The Maguindanao massacre, also known as the Ampatuan massacre, named after the town where mass graves of victims were found, occurred on the morning of November 23, 2009, in the town of Ampatuan in then-undivided Maguindanao (which is now Maguindanao del Sur) province, on the island of Mindanao.

The Second EDSA Revolution, also known as the Second People Power Revolution, EDSA 2001, or EDSA II (pronounced EDSA Two or EDSA Dos), was a political protest from January 17–20, 2001 which peacefully overthrew the government of Joseph Estrada, the thirteenth president of the Philippines.

The Moro insurgency was triggered by the Jabidah massacre on March 18, 1968, during which 60 Filipino Muslim commandos on a planned operation to reclaim the eastern part of the Malaysian state of Sabah were killed.

In 1945, the Philippines was among the 51 original Member States, and one of only four Asian nations, that signed the UN Charter.

The VFA is a bilateral security agreement signed by the Philippines and the US on February 10, 1998.
